1. Data Collection

1.1 What We Collect

TabRescue collects only the minimum data necessary to provide its core functionality of restoring closed tabs:

• Closed Tab Metadata:
  • URL of the closed tab
  • Page title
  • Timestamp when the tab was closed
  • Domain name
  • Favicon URL
  • Window ID
  • Tab index position
• User Preferences:
  • Theme selection (light/dark/system)
  • Retention period settings
  • Blacklist rules (Pro feature)
  • Badge display preferences
  • Language settings
• Usage Statistics (Pro feature):
  • Daily count of closed tabs
  • Domain frequency statistics

1.2 What We DO NOT Collect

TabRescue explicitly does NOT collect:

• ❌ Personal identification information (name, email, address, phone number, etc.)
• Financial or payment information
• ❌ Health or medical information
• ❌ Location data (GPS, IP address, geolocation)
• ❌ User activity tracking (mouse clicks, scrolling, keystrokes, screen recording)
• ❌ Web page content (text, images, videos, forms submitted)
• Browsing history beyond closed tabs
• ❌ Cookies or authentication tokens
• ❌ Contacts, messages, or communications

2. Data Storage & Security

2.1 Local Storage (Base Version)

• Data never leaves your device
• No server communication or cloud synchronization
• Data persists across browser sessions but remains on your local machine
• Uninstalling the extension automatically removes all stored data

2.2 Cloud Sync (Pro Version - Optional)

If you choose to enable cloud sync:

• Your closed tab data will be encrypted before transmission
• Data is synced to your personal cloud storage account (Chrome sync)
• We do not have access to view or decrypt your synchronized data
• You can disable cloud sync at any time from the Options page
• Disabling cloud sync stops all data synchronization immediately

2.3 Data Security Measures

• All data stored using Chrome's secure storage APIs
• No plaintext passwords or sensitive credentials stored
• Extension follows Chrome Manifest V3 security best practices
• Regular security audits and updates

3. Data Usage

3.1 Primary Purposes

We use collected data solely for:

1. Tab Restoration: Enabling one-click recovery of accidentally closed tabs
2. Search & Filter: Allowing users to find specific closed tabs by keywords, domains, or dates
3. User Preferences: Remembering your settings for theme, retention period, and blacklist rules
4. Statistics (Pro): Providing insights about your browsing patterns (local only unless cloud sync enabled)

3.2 No Commercial Use

We do NOT:

• Sell or rent your data to third parties
• Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes
• Build user profiles for commercial purposes
• Share data with data brokers or analytics companies

5. Data Retention & Deletion

5.1 Retention Periods

• Default: 7 days (automatically configurable)
• Options: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or unlimited (Pro)
• Starred Tabs: Permanently retained until manually deleted (regardless of retention setting)

5.2 Automatic Cleanup

The extension performs automatic cleanup based on your retention settings:

• Runs periodically via Chrome alarms API
• Removes closed tabs older than the retention period
• Preserves starred/favorited tabs indefinitely
• Maintains maximum history limit (15 for Base, unlimited for Pro)

5.3 Manual Deletion

You can delete your data at any time:

• Delete Individual Tabs: Click the delete button on any tab entry in the popup
• Clear All Data: Use the "Clear All" button in the popup or Options page
• Uninstall Extension: Removing TabRescue from Chrome automatically deletes all stored data

6. User Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

1. Right to Access: View all your stored data through the TabRescue popup interface
2. Right to Delete: Remove individual entries or clear all data instantly
3. Right to Export: Download your data as JSON or CSV files (Pro feature)
4. Right to Opt-Out: Disable cloud sync or uninstall the extension at any time
5. Right to Modify: Change retention settings, blacklist rules, and other preferences

7. Children's Privacy

TabRescue is designed for general audiences and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make changes:

• We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
• Significant changes will be announced in the extension's changelog
• Continued use of TabRescue after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
